When we interact with products we have different responses, which involve the use of cognition, perceptual senses, memory, language and emotions. Some responses are linked to the physical functions of a product and its attributes like weight, shape, colours, and materials. Others are associated to the non-physical functions of a product like starting social interaction, expressing cultural origins, making laugh and telling a tale. This research aims at investigating how consumers experience products and use them during personal interactions. Interviews, ethnography research, observational and experimental evaluations of products will be conducted to better understand the physical and non-physical functions that are involved in product experience. Results from this research will be used to develop tools that industry can use to be more effective in product development.
